Sharon: Israel Will Not Turn Blind Eye to Killed Bulgarian

Politics | June 30, 2003, Monday // 00:00

Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said Monday that, despite the security agreement with the Palestinian Authority, Israel would not turn a blind eye to the shooting attack in the Northern Gaza Strip, in which a Bulgarian laborer was shot and killed, Haaretz reported.

Bulgaria's Foreign Ministry identified the victim as Krastyu Radkov, aged 46. He was born in the Bulgarian town of Levski. He has been hit in the head while driving a construction lorry near the town of Jenin.

Bulgaria's Ambassador to Israel Tsanko Yablanski told the Bulgarian National Radio that Radkov supplied water to the workers at a construction company.

Radkov's remains will be moved to the central morgue in Tel Aviv Monday evening or Tuesday morning. Ambassador Yablanski declined to comment who is behind the attack since the information is still unofficial.

The Al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades, associated with Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah group, has claimed responsibility for the attack.

AFP cited a member of the radical group as saying that "this action is in response to the genocide committed by Israel and its rejection of the so-called truce."

The bloodshed brought the overall toll of those killed to 3,373 since the outbreak of the Palestinian uprising in September 2000.
