The risks and consequences for Bulgaria's national security will be discussed at the session of the Consultative Council for National Security, that is convened today by President Parvanov.

The theme of the meeting is "Risks and consequences for the national security in a possible conflict in the Persian Gulf".

Interior Minister Petkanov and Nikola Kolev, chief of the General Staff of the Bulgarian Armed Forces, will deliver reports.

Bulgaria, a current non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, backs the US and UK position on Iraq.

In a separate development security measures at the US and UK Embassies in Sofia tightened.

A day earlier US President Bush said that Monday, 17 March, will be a moment of truth for the world regarding Iraq.

His comments came after about an hour of emergency talks in the Azores with his two staunchest allies, the UK Prime Minister Tony Blair and the Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar.

The UN Security Council gathers on Monday at an urgent meeting, demanded by Russia, Germany and France, to continue consultations on Iraq.
