Bulgaria's parliament will vote on the Cabinet-named buyer of Bulgaria's tobacco monopoly this week, it transpired March 12.

The vote has been included in the weekly agenda of the Parliament, which, under the Privatisation and Privatisation Control Act as last amended, is solely competent to approve the transaction.

On Wednesday the parliamentary economic commission approved Tobacco Capital Partners for preferred buyer for Bulgaria's tobacco monopoly Bulgartabac. MPs of Simeon II National Movement and the predominantly ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms (MRF), junior partner in the ruling coalition, led by Simeon II National Movement, voted for Tobacco Capital Partners.

Deutsche Bank-owned consortium Tobacco Capital Partners was named preferred buyer of an 80% stake in Bulgaria's tobacco monopoly Bulgartabac, the Cabinet decided at an extraordinary meeting March 10.

The price of the deal is EUR 110 M.

In a separate development Deputy Prime Minister and Economy Minister Vassilev assured that the deal will include serious guarantees to serve Bulgaria's best interests.

Asked whether Tobacco Capital Partners would commit not to sell Bulgatabac's shares for a period of five years, Minister Vassilev said he is not in a position to talk on behalf of Tobacco Capital Partners.
