Bulgaria will vote in favor of the second resolution on Iraq in the United Nations Security Council, the government announced on Monday after an urgent meeting.
Stefan Tafrov, ambassador to the UN Security Council, was instructed from Sofia to say that Bulgaria backs the second resolution on Iraq, spokesman Dimitur Tsonev announced.
Bulgaria is prepared to support the draft resolution, international agencies cited Bulgarian UN ambassador Stefan Tafrov as saying on Friday.
In his words Iraq's cooperation remains inadequate despite the indispensable coupling of diplomacy with force.
Iraq's cooperation is neither immediate, nor unconditional nor active, Tafrov said.
On Monday, Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Petkov informed the ministers about the latest developments on Iraq and said that Bulgaria had two arguments to support the resolution.
"First, the second resolution is continuation of Resolution 1441 and second it represents a form of pressure to make Iraq disarm," Petkov said.
He added that it will be clear till Wednesday when the second resolution on Iraq will be voted.
