Massive Archeological Excavations in Mysterious Bulgarian Mountain

Bulgarian archeologists will start massive excavations in the eastern part of the Rhodope Mountain known as a region extraordinarily rich in archeology finds. The explorers will study twenty-eight sites - several mediaeval settlements and a prehistoric mould among them.

The digging starts this string before constructors take to the Eastern Rhodopes for road works. The excavations will be financed by Bulgaria's Road Agency and will absorb BGN 6,000 to 10,000.

Eight expeditions from Bulgaria's Archeological Institute will be involved in the excavations. Most of the archeological discoveries in the country have been made before or during construction works, Dr. Vaklinova, director of the institute, told novinite.com.

For years, the archeologists have been looking in the Eastern Rhodopes for the magnificent Thracian Dionysus temple described by ancient historian Herodotus. Several Bulgarian archeologists claim the discovery of the temple, others continue the search but nothing has been proved yet.
