Hewlett-Packard will donate Bulgaria two information Public Centres as a sign of support for Bulgaria's efforts for EU and NATO entry.

This transpired at the meeting of Prime Minister Simeon Saxe-Coburg and Mr. Matti Virtanen, Vice-President of Hewlett-Packard and General Manager of Eastern Europe, Austria, Switzerland, Middle East and Africa.

Opportunities for partnership between Hewlett-Packard and Bulgaria's Cabinet in implementing the E-Europe initiative and ways for tapping the expertise of Hewlett-Packard in E-government-relevant projects were discussed at the meeting.

The centres, to be fully equipped in the next three months, will promote the values of e-democracy to people in remote regions.

The USD 60,000-worth project aims to aid the integration of isolated and underdeveloped regions, combat poverty and unemployment through incentives for the small and medium-sized business.

The E-Europe initiative was launched by the European Commission in December 1999 to bring the benefits of the Information Society to all Europeans.
