Parliament Ready to Solve Deadlock of Top Privatisation Deals

Bulgaria's Parliament would interfere with legislative moves to ensure successful completion of Bulgartabac and Bulgarian Telecommunications Company (BTC) privatization. This is the firm position of the Parliament's economy committee chairman Valery Dimitrov.

His comment came two days after Bulgaria's privatisation body asked only Russia's consortium Rosbulgartabac and Austria's Tobacco Holding Gmb to confirm the validity of their bids for an 80% stake in Bulgaria's tobacco giant omitting Deutsche Bank-owned Tobacco Capital Partners.

Dimitrov pointed out that both deals were of great importance for Bulgaria and involve very serious investors. "The failure of the sales and the discrediting of Bulgaria in the eyes of the world's investors community will have a very negative effect that will last for years," he pointed out.

I think it is time that the lawmakers take a decision on Bulgartabac privatisation, Ahmed Dogan, leader of the Turks ethnic party Movement for Rights and Freedoms, said Friday.
