Bulgaria: Turkey's Military Operation in Syria To Concentrate on Raqqa BGNES

The Turkish military operation in support of Syrian opposition fighters in northern Syria will concentrate on the city of Raqqa controlled by Islamic state, announced Turkish President Recep Erdogan.

Erdogan specified that, at the moment, the rebels are advancing towards the important city of al-Bab in order to clear the city from Islamic State fighters. After taking al-Bab, they will head towards the city of Manbij, which was conquered by Kurdish militias in August, and “then, they will head to Raqqa”.

Meanwhile, Turkish Defence Minister Fikri I??k stated to Turkish media Haber that Turkey has asked the US to prevent Kurdish militias from entering Raqqa. Ankara is ready to provide military aid for the taking of Raqqa from IS, added I??k.

On Wednesday, an American military representative said that Kurdish militias will be included in the operation against Raqqa. Turkey, however, is against Kurdish formations and regards them as terrorists due to their links to the Kurdish separatists on Turkish territory.
