Bulgaria: Think-Tank Distances Itself from Investigation into EU's Georgieva

The Foreign Policy Research Institute (FPRI) has retracted an article exploring the past of the EU Commission Vice President for Budget and Human Resources, Bulgarian Kristalina Georgieva.

The text, authored by Yves Kugelmann and titled "A Major Blunder at the UN Narrowly Averted," argued that Georgieva had been an informant for Bulgaria's Soviet-era security apparatus, State Security (DS).

"The article contained assertions about Bulgaria’s European Commissioner Kristalina Georgieva. Upon investigation and further review, we do not stand behind the article and we retract it." the FPRI has said.

The article is not available as of October 25, 2016.

Upon the text's publication, Georgieva vowed to take legal action against those who continue to spread "falsehoods" about her.
