Russia’s strategy is to weaken the European Union, stated the President of the European Council Donald Tusk after five-hour negotiations of the bloc on the policy to be adopted with respect to Russia.

“The leaders emphasised the various displays of Russian hostile actions – from breaching airspace to information campaigns, cyber attacks, intervention in the political processes of the EU and other countries,” said Tusk, cited by EurActiv.

“Having in mind examples of this, it is clear that Russia’s strategy is to weaken the EU,” added Tusk.

“Our purpose is not to escalate the tension with Russia. We are simply reacting to steps taken by Moscow. Of course, the EU is ready to conduct a dialogue with Russia but we will not compromise our values or principles,” commented Tusk, cited by BTA.
