A French national supposely linked to jihadist groups has been detained on the Bulgarian-Serbian border, media report.

The man was en route to Turkey and was on a recognizance order at a police in the French ity of Rouen, but raises suspicion from authorities after failing to arrive for his daily inspection at a police department. They then contacted Bulgarian authorities to ask for his arrest.

French daily Figaro was the first to report the story, but Bulgarian Interior Ministry sources unofficially confirmed for the public broadcaster BNT.

The foreign national is barred from leaving the country, and authorities demanded his arrest by Bulgarian police when they were made aware he had breached the restriction.

France is yet to issue a European Arrest Warrant for the 20-year-old-man that will allow his extradition from Bulgaria.

The suspect is a convert to Islam who started visiting jihadist websites, Figaro notes. He left France by his own car.
