Agriculture Minister Assures Tobacco Harvest Will Be Bought Out

The entire 2002 tobacco harvest will be bought from producers, Agriculture Minister Ahmed Dikme assured. He added that many banks offer tobacco traders credits to pay to growers. According to Dikme, the biggest buyer will be Socotab and the state-owned tobacco holding Bulgartabac will go private "when the right time comes". He also said that Bulgaria will try to negotiate with the European Union an annual tobacco production quota of 70, 000 t and by April next year at the latest there will be a new law on tobacco.
