A railroad link with Europe that uses Georgia and Bulgaria as gateways into the continent is on the agenda for Iran, the Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev's press office has said.

The announcement has been made after a meeting of Plevneliev with his Iranian counterpart, Hassan Rouhani.

Both leaders are in New York for the 71st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

The two discussed the possibilities for Iranian companies to set foot in Europe after the lifting of economic sanctions on the Islamic republic.

Bulgaria's competitive advantages (such as the favourable tax system) for doing business could be used in the process, Plevneliev has told Rouhani.

The two have also discussed prospective cooperation in pharmaceuticals and the options to set up joint Bulgarian-Iranian companies in the field.
