A Turkish citizen sought by Bulgaria to stand trial over the death of two motorbikers is most likely in Germany, a senior Bulgarian official has said.

According to information available to the Bulgarian authorities, Faruk Bektas is residing at present in Germany; therefore the authorities expect the European Arrest Warrant issued against him to yield results, Interior Ministry's Deputy Chief Secretary Georgi Arabadzhiev said at a press briefing in Sofia on Thursday.

Bektas is suspected of causing the deaths of Boyko Boykov and Tanya Boykova near Dragoman, close to the border with Serbia on July 24. Bektas was on his way home from Germany to Turkey transiting Bulgaria when the car he was driving hit the motorbike, which the Bulgarian citizens rode. A Bulgarian judge placed him under house arrest after the accident, but Bektas was unavailable at the address declared for his house arrest just days after the ruling.

Arabadzhiev added that he had no information to suggest that Bektas is in Turkey. He also expressed hope that the Turkish national would soon be sent to Bulgaria to stand trial thanks to the European Arrest Warrant.
