Turkey is ready to take steps immediately towards the implementation of the Turkish Stream gas pipeline project, the country’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said.

"We are ready to promptly take steps towards the implementation of this project, discuss it and make a decision," TASS quoted Erdogan as saying in an interview with the Russian news agency on Monday.

There are “no obstacles whatsoever” to go ahead with the project, Erdogan said.

Erdogan will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on Tuesday.

Turkish Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci said last month that Russia and Turkey have reached a political decision of the construction of Turkish Stream and Akkuyu nuclear power plant in Turkey. Putin and Erdogan would give the "final momentum" to moving the two projects forward at their meeting in St. Petersburg, according to Zeybekci.
