Turkey's commander of the air force, General Abidin Unal as well as Fleet Commander Veysel Kosele have reportedly been held hostage by participants in the unsuccessful attempt for coup carried out by a group within the Turkish military overnight.

General Unal as well as several other top commanders of the air force were taken hostage while they were attending a wedding in Istanbul. They were reportedly abducted by pro-coup soldiers in five helicopters.

Turkish authorities, who appear to have mostly regained control and crushed the coup, are in search for the air force commanders.

An anti-government group had seized a frigate and abducted Fleet Commander Kosele at Golcuk naval base, Hurriyet Daily News informs.

On Friday night, Chief of Staff, General Hulusi Akar, had also reportedly been taken hostage by coup plotters, but was later rescued.
