The process of tobacco buy-out will be speeded up and all tobacco, produced in 2002 will be purchased, Agriculture Minister Dikme said in Parliament. The parliamentary group of ruling coalition junior partner Movement for Rights and Freedoms held a meeting today with Minister Dikme and Georgi Kostov, Executive Director of Bulgaria's tobacco monopoly Tobacco Holding. The talks, initiated by the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, were prompted by tobacco producers concerns over the delay in the campaign kick-off, its pace and criteria for assessing the produced tobacco. According to Kostov some 30,000 tons will be purchased in 2002, which is an increase over the 2001 harvest. A total of 400 tons of tobacco have been purchased so far. The campaign will continue in Northern Bulgaria, where tobacco harvest was damaged this year due to bad weather conditions.
