Bulgaria: Tourist Trips by Bulgarian Residents Decrease 4.8% Y/Y in Q1 2016

A total of 550,200 Bulgarian residents made tourist trips in the first quarter of 2016, a decrease of 4.8% compared to the equivalent period of 2015, the state statistical office NSI has said.

Most tourists, 83.5%, travelled made trips in Bulgaria, 14.0% travelled only abroad and 2.5% travelled both in the country and abroad.

The statistical data covered Bulgarian residents aged 15 and over.

Compared with the first quarter of 2015, the number of Bulgarian residents on tourist trips in the country dropped by 5.0%. The number of Bulgarians making tourist trips abroad decreased by 3.5%.

Most tourist trips,44.2%, were made by Bulgarians aged 25 - 44 in the first quarter of 2016.

The share of tourist trips organized through a travel agency or a tour operator abroad was 37.2% and in Bulgaria it was 4.2%, according to the NSI.

In the first quarter of 2016, a Bulgarian resident spent an average of BGN 143.21 on a private trip in the country and BGN 627.91 on a trip abroad. The average expenditure per person for a business trip was BGN 160.94 for a domestic trip and BGN 1,022.60 on a business trip abroad.
