Bulgaria's Commission for Protection of Competition (KZK) has imposed sanctions on two regional TV and Internet providers for practices amounting to unfair competition.
NetWorx Bulgaria and Nordelink Bulgaria have been fined with respectively BGN 358 620 and BGN 94 020, the sums amounting to 3 % of the net revenues and sales of each company during the previous year.
The investigation into the practices of the two firms has been demanded by Bulsatcom, a rival satellite TV, Internet and mobile operator, which itself was fined for unfair competition on Wednesday.
During the investigation, KZK established that the two companies are jointly offering TV and Internet packages, but there are no broadcasting rights for all television programmes featured in the packages.
According to the regulator, this is in contradiction with the conscientious commercial practices as it could harm the interests of competitors.
KZK has also taken into account the fact that the number of programmes offered to customers constitutes an important element for customers when selecting a supplier and concluding a contract.
The inclusion of programmes without acquiring their broadcasting rights creates preconditions for offering lower prices of services which gives the two companies unlawful economic advantage over competitors.
The two companies have two weeks to appeal the decision of KZK.
The commission has not established violations on the other charge brought against the two companies, namely misleading advertisement.
