Bulgarian Justice Minister Ekaterina Zaharieva on Friday granted citizenship to Ted Kotcheff, a US director born to Bulgarian parents.

Kotcheff submitted an application in February, prior to his arrival to Bulgaria for this years' edition of the Sofia International Film Festival.

On Monday he is to receive a birth certificate and Bulgarian identity documents.

Kotcheff thanked authorities for the cooperation.

Dnevnik quotes the Justice Ministry as saying he was "a Bulgarian citizen at birth".

Kotcheff, 84, who is best know for having directed First Blood, a Rambo movie, announced earlier in March that he would start work on a title about Bulgarian King Boris III (1918-1941).

"Dnevnik quotes the Justice Ministry as saying he was "a Bulgarian citizen at birth"..............What absolute BS from the so called Justice Ministry. How can he be a Bulgarian citizen at birth when he was born in Toronto Canada? What a ridiculous sycophantic statement.

Also, he got his citizenship done in record time, only applied for it in the USA where he lives in February 2016, and it was approved and finalised in a hurry by March, just as he was here for the Sofia Film Festival, and promoting his next project, the film about King Boris.

I know people in Australia trying to get a Bulgarian Passport as descendants of Bulgarians, and it takes almost 18 months to go through all the red tape and bs that goes with it. Special people like Kotcheff get fast tracked. It's amazing how quickly the bureaucrats work when there is something in it for them.

He might be of Bulgarian origin but what he did for Bulgaria?? The Iranian girl that was denied Bulgarian citizenship may give birth to a child in Bulgarian and its is more than this selfish person ever did for Bulgaria.
