Russia doesn’t consider the construction in Bulgaria of a gas hub or a branch of the planned Turkish Stream pipeline, Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak has said.

“This is not being discussed,” Russia news agency TASS quoted Novak as telling reporters on Friday.

“They have to discuss these matters with the European Commission because they, together with the European Commission, didn’t allow to implement the South Stream Project,” Novak said.

“To a greater extent – the European Commission rather than Bulgaria; Bulgaria was unable to defend its position,” he added.

Turkish Stream, unveiled by Russia’s Gazprom in December 2014, replaced South Stream – a gas pipeline project designed to carry Russian gas to the EU across the Black Sea and via Bulgaria – which Gazprom had to abandon over competition concerns of the European Commission.

Turkish Stream is intended to carry Russian gas across the Black Sea to Turkey and possibly to a gas hub at Turkey's border with Greece for delivery to the EU.
