Members of Russian punk band Pussy Riot are in Bulgaria for several days, media outlets report.

A photo has meanwhile appeared on social media, uploaded by blogger and activist Ivo Bozhkov, which shows Tolokonnikova against the background of the Soviet Army Monument in downtown Sofia, Bulgaria.

The Mount of Brothers is seen here with Soviet soldiers' heads wearing hoodies. The monument has been subject to several "transformations" done by different artists over the past years - the most famous one being by the Destructive Creation team - which have prompted numerous debates as to whether the monument should remain or should be removed. The "transformations" have also raised the issue of stricter punishment for what some describe as "vandalism" and others as an act of "freedom of speech".

Pussy Riot members are in Sofia for the shooting of a Kevin Booth documentary.

In February 2012, the band members were detained after a performance at the Cathedral of Christ the Savior which later resulted in a 2-year jail sentence.

One of the girls, Yekaterina Samutsevich, was freed two months later, while the other two, Tolokonnikova and Maria Alyohina, were released in December of next year.

The Russian authorities' actions against the two were harshly condemned by politicians and activists all across the world, with prosecutors in Russia, however, alleging Pussy Riot members had committed an act of "hooliganism motivated by religious hatred".
