Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic has voiced his concern over treatment of migrants in Bulgaria.

Nikolic has made his comments in an interview with the Serbian-language version of Sputniknews.

"I've heard people passing through the mountains between Bulgaria and Serbia say: "Just don't send us back to Bulgaria." Who knows what is happening to people there, in this democratic state, a member of the EU, if refugees react this way," the head of state is quoted as saying.

Nikolic's statement (just a small segment of the interview) has been quoted by Bulgarian news websites and wire services and also in summaries of the interview on Serbia's Tanjug and RTS.

As of 14:00 EEST on Wednesday, September 9, however, the interview is not available though the text is clearly visible as a first search result.

In the cached version of the interview, Nikolic doesn't go into details about what might be "happening" to migrants in Serbia's eastern neighbor (such information is also missing from summaries available on Serbian news outlets).

The comments come against the backdrop of a continuous migrant influx at the borders of Serbia and Macedonia, while Bulgaria has seen a relatively modest surge of asylum seekers willing to come in compared to its neighbors.
