The former Foreign Minister and future ambassador to Turkey Nadezhda Neynsky said that she is to seek new basis of bilateral relations and will champion the Bulgarian national interests.
Neynsky did not want to make concrete statements as she was still to hold many conversations before her departure to Turkey, she said in an interview for private bTV station on Friday.
The diplomat said that she will act as representative of Bulgaria and as such she will not pursue her own policy, but will use her expertise, knowledge and contacts.
Neynsky added that during her career she has met Turkish President Recep Erdogan on several occasions.
According to her, the situation in Turkey was very dynamic, but she did not want to build her impressions on meetings from the past.
In her words, it was widely known that Turkey was at present violating some European values and principles.
Neynsky stated that Bulgaria could not remain indifferent to these violations and she will seek opportunities for development of the Bulgarian-Turkish relations.
She said that the relations should be put on a new basis and pointed to the frameworks of the EU and NATO as holding potential for restarting the cooperation.
According to her, all contemporary problems and current issues, which concerned Bulgaria, were concentrated in Turkey – refugees, the problems in the Middle East, energy topics.
Neynsky also commended the reaction of Foreign Minister Daniel Mitov, who dismissed the Russian provocation on the partitioning of Macedonia.
In her words, the statement of Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who claimed that Bulgaria and Albania were plotting to partition Macedonia, aimed to cause destabilisation.
The Bulgarian government announced the nomination of Neynsky on Wednesday and the next step is for Bulgarian President Rosen Plevneliev to appoint her by issuing a decree.
