Increased Consumption of Cigarettes and Alcohol in Bulgaria

Over the course of 2014 Bulgarian households have decreased the consumption of bread and bakery products but have increased the consumption of alcohol and cigarettes.

The data has been reveled through a research conducted by the National Statistical Institute in 2014.

Fruit and meat purchasing, on the other hand has been on the increase.

The average consumption of bread and baked products per person has been 93.2 kilograms or 4.6 kilograms less than the levels those of 2013.

Meanwhile, consumption of vegetables has been decreased by over 2 kilograms per person, adding up to an average of 70 kilograms per person in 2014.

Potato consumption has also been further reduced to 28.5 kilograms on the average per person annually.

On the other hand, Bulgarians have registered a higher alcohol consumption in 2014, reaching 28.4 liters per person.

An increase is also visible in cigarette consumption - an average of 603 in 2014 as compared to 596 in 2013.

A little over kilogram per person decrease has been noted in the consumption of milk and yougurt - 18.8 liters and 26.9 liters per person annually.
