The European Commission made three demands towards Bulgaria in terms of complying with the legislative norms of the Union Thursday.

The representative organ has requested from the Bulgarian government that an explanation is provided in three sections: driving licences, railway transportation safety and field crops disease management.

Bulgaria was included in a long list, including Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Ireland, Spain, France, Finland, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia and Slovenia regarding the demand of the EU Commission for amendment of local rules so that compliance with the new updated driving rules can be achieved. The RASPER data exchange mechanism has been created to prevent frauds, increase freedom of transportation for EU citizens and simultaneously decrease road accidents.

The second point joined Bulgaria and Poland in a list of countries that need to improve railroad transportation. The possible measures pointed out were safety certifications, independence of government investigation offices, and preventative measures.

The European Commission has also demanded that Bulgaria should present information on the policies to prevent the spread of the corn pest Diabrotica virgifera virgifera. The country was require to submit a report on the measures taken on the matter by May 31, 2014. Since, that was not done, Bulgaria needs to immediately present the information due.

In case all of the requirements are not complied with, then the Commission might file lawsuits against Bulgaria on account of the violations.
