Work on the Hemus and Trakia motorways will resume in March, when the winter road cleaning regime across the country is partially lifted, according to Lazar Lazarov, Chair of the Management Board of the Road Infrastructure Agency.

Lazarov told Pressa daily that the right lanes of the motorways had been completed in 2014 and traffic would be channeled through them so that the construction of the left lanes could start.

He explained that there had been no payments for work on the sites in the period end-2013 – November 2014 and not much work had been carried out there.

He said that the most difficult section of the Trakia motorway, at the 67th kilometer, was to be ready by end-2015.

Lazarov noted that the viaduct at the 61st kilometer and the Bebresh Viaduct at the Hemus motorway were easier to complete and would probably be ready by autumn.

He informed that Austrian company Porr was conducting the repair of the viaduct near Tserovo of the Trakia motorway under a contract worth BGN 7.24 M.

He also said that a consortium of Geostroy-Mostremont 97-Patstroy 91 was working on the Varshilata Viaduct at the 61st kilometer of the Trakia motorway under a contract worth BGN 6 M.

Lazarov declared that the most expensive rehabilitation project was that for the Bebresh Viaduct at the 30th kilometer of the Hemus motorway, adding that it was being carried out by GBS under a contract worth nearly BGN 13 M, VAT excluded.
