Bulgaria's Agriculture Minister Desislava Taneva announced that the European Commission is not going to compensate dairy producers, who have been affected by the sanctions imposed on Russia.

Last week dairy producers said they would demand support from the Commission as their earnings have decreased since Russia imposed an embargo from the EU.

Taneva explained that together with Romania, which has been similarly affected by the sanctions, the two countries requested the application of five additional measures, online daily Dnevnik reports.

The introduction of such measures is necessary, as Bulgaria does not produce powdered milk, for which compensations are being provided by the EU.

According to Taneva, there is a positive development, as last year Bulgaria was the only country to claim that the sector was in crisis.

At present six member states expressed support for Bulgaria's position and the Minister assured that the analysis of the sector is to be continued in March.

Taneva expressed hope that a compromise will be reached soon.

The Minister added that the price of milk in Bulgaria has constantly been falling since March 2014 and has decreased with 14 % in November last year.
