Bulgaria: Caretaker Prime Minister Replaced Chairman of State Agency for National Security
The Chairman of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) Dimitar Georgiev was relieved of his post following a decision of the Council of Ministers.
Municipal councilors and a banking officer have been arrested in a specialized operation of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) in the southern town of Brezovo.
Radnyo Manolov, Mayor of the Brezovo Municipality, explained that the special operation had been conducted on Tuesday evening.
He specified that the authorities had arrested Dimitar Tomov, Deputy Mayor of the Brezovo Municipality, Stoyna Maleshkova, Secretary of the Brezovo Municipality, and Stoyanka Stoyanova, manager of the DSK Bank office in Brezovo, for a period of up to 72 hours.
The three are investigated for abuse of personal data and forging voluntary pension scheme registrations, according to the Focus news agency.
According to unconfirmed reports, some 500 people had their voluntary pension scheme registrations forged.
The arrests came after an investigation of several months of DANS on a tip-off for redirecting installments under voluntary pension schemes from one pension fund to another without the written consent of the people.
