Almost 90% of the people with disabilities in Bulgaria are unemployed said the head of the Agency for disabled people Mincho Koralski at a round table on integration in Sofia.
According to Koralski, quoted by News.bg, the main reason for this was within the society, which was still not tolerant to the different people, no matter what their difference is.
The key solution to the problem, according to Koralski, is the integration of people with disabilities from a very early age – i.e. attending kindergartens and schools with all other children who do not see them as a burden, but as human beings with their potential and skills.
The Agency estimations show that nearly 80% of the companies in Bulgaria have no programmes for hiring disabled people.
A solution to this would be the use of mediators – people who would organise the meeting between the employer and the disabled person and explain what special needs s/he has. According to Koralski, the mediator would later continue working both with the employer and the employed to smooth out the working process.
