Bulgaria's National Electricity Company (NEK) hikes the prices for companies who buy electricity from the end-user EDCs by 16%, according to an announcement on NEK's website

According to data of the energy watchdog DKEVR, the price hike will affect around one fifth of the companies in Bulgaria, including water utility companies, branches of the Railway Infrastructure National Company, Irrigation Systems, as well as schools, hospital and universities.

The majority of them have outstanding electricity bills and cannot buy power from the free electricity market - i.e. not from the EDCs.

A calculation of the Club Z news website shows that since the beginning of this  year the electricity prices for those consumers have risen by 53%.
