Air Algerie’s missing passenger plane has crashed in the Republic of Niger, according to international media reports based on information of the Algerian TV.

A flight of Algeria's national airline, Air Algerie, has disappeared from radar en route from Burkina Faso to Algiers, earlier on Thursday. Contact with flight AH5017 was lost about 50 minutes after take-off from Ouagadougou.

There were 116 people on board. According to preliminary reports, 80 of them were citizens of France.

Spanish air carrier Swiftair confirmed that all six crew members of the missing plane were citizens of Spain.
