Bulgaria: Russian Treatment of Ukraine 'Scandalous', Says New German FM Frank-Walter Steinmeier. Photo by EPA/BGNES

The new German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier has criticized Russia’s behavior with regards to Ukraine in his inaugural speech.

“It is utterly scandalous how Russia used Ukraine’s economic plight for its own ends, also in order to prevent the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. Of course, the violent behavior of the Ukrainian security forces towards peaceful demonstrators was also scandalous”, said Steinmeier quoted by Euronews.

The German Foreign Minister will travel to Poland on Thursday to discuss the topic of Ukraine.

One of Ukraine’s opposition leaders, former boxing champion Vitali Klitschko has urged Steinmeier to visit Kiev and witness the protests.

Earlier, Russia agreed to cut gas prices for Ukraine and help bail out the country by buying billions of dollars’ worth of government bonds.

"“It is utterly scandalous how Russia used Ukraine’s economic plight for its own ends, also in order to prevent the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU. Of course, the violent behavior of the Ukrainian security forces towards peaceful demonstrators was also scandalous”, said Steinmeier quoted by Euronews." Oh really … if that's scandalous then I don't want to call Germany which is 1000x worse. It uses the economic plight of the whole of Eastern, Southern, and most of Europe in general, to buy up their assets, exploit their resources and their people as cheap labour. Not to mention how it uses bullying tactics against Greece, Romania, Bulgaria inside the EU, and Serbia outside the EU. Is it just me or is it true that I haven't seen Yanukovych's police use tear gas or water cannons or even rubber bullets, all I saw was them being run over by a bulldozer, then what's violent about the police force, I would say they are not violent enough. Unlike the German police which gassed and drowned it's own people in Frankfurt for protesting against the Euro currency and the EU in general.

I gotta say Germany and the West's hypocrisy is absolutely scandalous indeed.

Also, this is so pathetic how the west chooses a 'figure head' (for their own medias) in other countries and ignore if they are even considered important there...

This is the same Germany that got Marshall plan even though they started two world wars, its factories n brands got special protection to be able to grow n not be crushed by US companies (Japan got the same privileges).

Germany has done the opposite to Eastern Europe, destroyed industry n bought up companies. So Germany can be strong by export while others stagnate. Who are THEY to lecture? Also, Russia saves Ukraine's economy, what did the German vultures offer?..Maybe the Krauts should simply demand to print Euros out of nothing like the US does?
