Euro-skeptic parties are not in Bulgaria's interest ahead of next year's European Parliament elections, believes the country's Foreign Minister Kristian Vigenin.

"We are witnessing rising anti-European movements in many EU member states. If given a chance to flourish, these parties will drive the EU's policies away from its established ideals, and threaten directly the newer member states", said Vigenin, cited by Dnevnik.bg.

The Foreign Minister is concerned that despite the European Parliament's growing influence, the public interest in European elections is declining.

Vigenin acknowledged the serious challenges facing Brussels, to win over the skeptics, who have lost faith in institutions as a result of the economic, social, and political crisis in the past years.

"In Bulgaria, the European elections often pass under the context of local politics. The European theme is vaguely presented, and Bulgarians view the EU institutions mostly as a source of money", added Vigenin.

He believes that Bulgaria should make more clear its participation and commitments in the EU, as a full-fledged member state.

Colonize this - 12 Dec 2013 // 03:22:04

I am American and guess what, I did not oppress or exploit Africans...lets not live in the past anymore and make excuses for corruption. Bulgaria is corrupt as hell, as is the USA as is England as is Russia as is Ukraine etc...see a trend. ALL THE DAMN GOVERNMENTS ARE CORRUPT and trying to hold onto power. Here in America there are plenty of Bulgarians who rip people off and go back to Bulgaria, do I hate Bulgarians NO, I actually love them. So Screw off you xenophobic peoples and join reality, we are all humans being screwed by those in control.

What Bulgarians really see the EU is as an oppressor and colonizer. No wonder the Black South Africans hate the Whites so much, no wonder wherever the British go they are hated so much, yet me as an Eastern European was loved because I didn't oppress and exploit them in the past.

"The Foreign Minister is concerned that despite the European Parliament's growing influence, the public interest in European elections is declining."..........................Why would Bulgarians be interested in the EP elections, when 50% of them don't even bother to show up and vote for the BG elections?

"and Bulgarians view the EU institutions mostly as a source of money", added Vigenin."...................Exactly!!! And the worst offender is Comrade Stanishite, who is always screaming out for more EU (free) funds. Everytime he opens his mouth and speaks, is to see and hear him complaining and stating that the EU funds that are allocated "are not enough" or "this is not enough to fix the problem." So maybe Vigenin can have a word to his very greedy, cunning and under-educated fellow comrade Stanishite; and explain to him that actions, plans, ideas, objectives and hard work are what is needed; not just continually bleating on about mega Billions that are never enough. And let's not even mention all the "funds" and revenue that has disappeared or is unaccounted for, having been stealthily siphoned off over the last 20 years, before and after BGN EU membership.
