Ukraine’s Interior Minister, Vitaliy Zakharchenko has told foreign ambassadors that the police in Kiev had used force only against the violent provocateurs in the demonstrations.

“Police understand well that citizens have a right to peacefully express their opinions and gather for peaceful meetings. Police do not fight with the population which is standing for its rights without breaking the law”, Zakharchenko told foreign ambassadors during a meeting, reports the Kyiv Post.

The meeting, which was also attended by Foreign Minister Leonid Kozhara, was requested by the ambassadors.

Foreign envoys accuse the Kiev police of using excessive force in the early hours of November 30 to disperse a peaceful demonstration.

The Foreign Minister asked ambassadors to urge the Ukrainian opposition to refrain from instigating citizens to illegal actions during mass demonstrations.
