The mass pro-government rally organized Saturday by the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, will not lead to tensions, according to party leader, Sergey Stanishev.
Speaking in the Parliament Friday, Stanishev, who is also the leader of the Party of European Socialists, PES, stated that his formation was turning to all citizens with a call to join the rally and send its message: "Yes to Freedom, No to Hatred."
According to him, there was a scenario to fan hatred in order to destabilize the country.
"This trend, imposed on the media as well, with the same spokespersons, who insinuate that everyone who has a different opinion must be shunned, is a direct route to fascism," said the Socialist leader.
He pledged tensions and clashes will be prevented because the left-wing has also shown respect for the rule of law, and he believed everyone will act reasonably.
When asked who has voiced the idea to hold the huge rally on the "Eagles' Bridge" intersection, in close vicinity of rallies of football fans, ahead of the country's derby, Stanishev replied curtly: "Members and followers."
"Maybe you think that only antigovernment protesters have the monopoly on Eagles Bridge?" said he.
The rally on Sofia's key intersection starts at 12 pm Saturday. The Socialists have said that 70 000 are expected to attend from all over the country.
