UKIP leader Nigel Farage has urged former Home Secretary David Blunkett to join the campaign to stop the lifting of labor market controls on Romanian and Bulgarian migrants coming to the UK.
The Daily Express is demanding David Cameron move to ensure they stay in place to mitigate a youth employment crisis in Britain.
It has launched a petition, which now has a total of more than 110,000 signatures online and from signed paper coupons.
Farage, who has already added his name to the list, urged Blunkett to do likewise.
"It would send a strong message that we must end uncontrolled immigration," he said.
"Mr Blunkett should be admired for the courage he has shown by speaking so plainly on this issue,“ Farage told the Daily Telegraph.
Referring to Blunkett's comments about the difficulties an increase in the Slovakian Roma population had caused in his Sheffield constituency.
“Of course the type of language he has used I would have been utterly condemned for using.
"My question is if they won't listen to the dangers of opening the door to Romania and Bulgaria next year when UKIP speak out on it, will they listen to David Blunkett? “I certainly hope so.
“I would also challenge Mr. Blunkett to support UKIP in explicitly opposing the opening of the doors next year to Romania and Bulgaria.
