The European Union is granting to Bulgaria close to EUR 2 B for social activities in the next program period - 2014-2020.

The funds are to be used mostly to tackle youth unemployment, according to Bulgarian Socialist MEP, Ivaylo Kalfin, cited by bTV.

"There will be enough money coming from the EU to help us deal with youth unemployment," said Kalfin, adding Bulgaria should use the funds under two plans - short-term and long-term.

"In addition to money, the European Union provides very good models. One of them is the dual system of vocational education; another is associated with youth job guarantees. The issue for us is to arrange things in a way to have positive results, not just spend some money," he said.

Kalfin reminded that according to official data, the share of young Bulgarian people out of work is around 25%, but in reality it was probably slightly higher - about 30%.
