Bulgaria's Dogan Calls In Sick again in 'Failed Assassin' Trial
The high-profile trial against Oktay Enimehmedov, the man who shocked Bulgaria by pointing a gas pistol at key politician Ahmed Dogan earlier in 2013, misfired once again Wednesday.
Local media inform that the victim has called in sick for a third time.
The Sofia City Court postponed the first hearing in the trial back on August 14, and the second on September 24, as Dogan failed to show up in court. It emerged Wednesday that the honorary lifetime chairman of the predominantly ethnic Turkish party Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, has produced another sick note, as he did on the previous two occasions.
Another key witness, the current DPS leader, Lyutvi Mestan, also failed to appear as he has not been found to be summoned. When the summons went to his house only Mestan's minor son has been there, while people at the DPS headquarters have refused to accept the subpoena.
From a number of people, who were supposed to take the witness stand, only DPS functionary, Dzheyhan Ibryamov and former Sofia City Prosecutor, Nikolay Kokinov, appeared to testify, thus some session will be held Wednesday.
On January 19, police in Bulgaria detained 25-year-old Oktay Enimehmedov after he pointed a gun at Dogan as he was delivering his resignation speech at a party conference in the capital Sofia. No shots were fired.
The young ethnic Turk stated that he did not actually want to kill Dogan, but to scare him. The gun was established to have been a gas pistol.
It was initially believed that he would only face grave hooliganism charges. However, experts told the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office that gas pistol shots can cause death if fired at a range closer than one centimeter from the temple, mouth or eyes.
Enimehmedov was therefore indicted on attempted murder charges. He was also charged with "indecent actions that are grossly violating the public order and showing clear lack of respect for society."
Dogan has not shown up in public since the January 19 incident.

Don't be a naive Aussie, Tania ;)
Firstly, it's impossible to insult the judiciary here - whatever excesses you might think of are already old hat to them and their cronies (eg the cheap land for "poor" children of judges scandal)
Secondly, I wouldn't waste too much sympathy on the stooge "assassin" - it was clearly another of the bizarre schemes cooked up by the aristocratic d'Ogan to ensure he stayed in the spotlight for as long as possible while pretend to relinquish power in his gang - oops, I mean "esteemed political party".
The cops here are adept at "not finding" people when it suits them (or their pockets or the interests of their political masters) - it would be a miracle if a cop managed to serve a summons on himself.
As for the "charges" in this Oscar-worthy farce, how on earth can someone be accused of "showing clear lack of respect for society" when he was clearly pretending to dispose of some Bukluk? Doesn't the Sanitation Department hand out "Hero of the Workplace" certificates any more? ;)
This is absolute BS. Dogan and Mestan are playing and manipulating the "system" and making a mockery of this trial and insulting the authority of the Court and also wasting everyone's time and money in this judicial farce. Dogan's "sick note" that he has produced 3 times to avoid court is just ridiculous, arrogant and childish. Mestan failing to show up to Court because he cannot be found to be delivered summons is also laughable and pathetic. Whilst Dogan is hiding at home, Mestan is currently MP and leader of his party and is very much visible; so don't tell me that no-one can find him in order to serve summons on him. They are both playing everyone for fools.
Meanwhile, Oktay Enimehmedov is at their mercy and has no choice but to wait and rot in jail until this trial proceeds and is able to take its full course. How long will Dogan and Mestan be allowed to get away with this? Is this their way of payback for their fellow Muslimite? Their holier than thou attitude is despicable.
