EU Says Ready to Help in Elimination of Syria’s Chemical Arsenal

The European Union has announced that it would be “happy” to provide technical and financial support for the elimination of chemical weapons in Syria if requested by the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW).

Michael Mann, a spokesman for European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, has told reporters in Brussels that the bloc is yet to receive an official request from the organization.

"At the moment we are discussing these issues among ourselves," he said.
