A Socialist member of Bulgaria’s parliament has harshly attacked the ambassadors of Germany and France, who recently criticized the political situation in the country.

“In Bulgaria we seem to be too tolerant, when it comes to foreign ambassadors commenting our domestic affairs,” Bulgarian Socialist Party MP Tatyana Burudzhieva told K2 radio.

“If this had happened in any other country, the ambassadors would certainly have been expelled,” she added.

Last week the Ambassadors of Germany and France to Bulgaria, Matthias Hoepfner and Philippe Autie, issued a joint statement on the tense situation in the country, stressing that the voice of civil society must be heard and warning that the oligarchic model is incompatible with EU membership.

The Ambassadors of Germany and France to Bulgaria issued their statement on the 25th day of anti-government protests in Bulgaria.

The series of anti-government rallies in Bulgaria was triggered by the scandalous appointment of controversial media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Although the appointment was revoked, the people went on to demand that the Socialist-backed cabinet resign collectively over ties with oligarchs.

Protesters are also calling for Election Code amendments which will guarantee greater representation of the people in Parliament.
