Saturday evening thousands have convoked in cenral Sofia to request the resignation of Bulgarian PM Plamen Oresharski on what is the 30th consecutive day since rallies started June 14.

People have taken to the streets of Sofia, chanting “Resignation!” and “Mafia!”, and blocking traffic on major roads and intersections.

Smaller morning (“coffee-drinking”) rallies have been staged in front of Parliament in Sofia since June 26.

The series of anti-government protests in Bulgaria was triggered by the scandalous appointment of controversial media mogul Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Although the appointment was revoked, the people went on to demand that the cabinet of PM Plamen Oresharski resign.

Protesters have vowed not to stop until a step down.

On his part, Oresharski and the two parties supporting his cabinet - the Bulgarian Socialist Party and the Movement for Rights and Freedoms - have said that resignation would throw the country into chaos and uncertainty.
