The drunk taxi cab driver who caused the horrific crash on Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd in Sofia late on Wednesday will have to remain in custody, the Sofia City Court has ruled.

The driver, Mihail Kurtev, has told the court that he is sorry for what he did.

The serious traffic accident occurred around 8:20 pm on Wednesday at the bus stop in front of the "The Mall" shopping center on Tsarigradsko Shose Blvd.

A taxi heading for the city center suffered a flat tire, spun out of control, and rammed into a bus stop full of people, leaving 12 injured. Kurtev had been speeding, according to traffic police.

A woman aged 27 died in hospital after the horrific crash.

A six-year-old child is still in critical condition.
