For the fourth day in a row, outraged Bulgarians will stage nationwide protest rallies against the government, formed on the mandate of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP.

The demonstrations were sparked by the outrageous decision of the government to appoint controversial media mogul and MP Delyan Peevski as Chair of the State Agency for National Security (DANS).

Organizers announce on Facebook that a protest is planned for Monday evening as well, despite the fact that as early as Saturday, Peevski said he will withdraw from the post. The demonstrators, however, now demand the resignation of the government.

Rallies have been held Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, growing from 10 000 to nearly 20 000 participants in Sofia, and escalating across the country, forcing Prime Minister, Plamen Oresharski, and the leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party, BSP, Sergey Stanishev, to admit Peevski's election has been a mistake.

This, however, failed to calm down Bulgarians, protests actually escalated and anger turned against all parliamentary represented parties – BSP, the ethnic Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms, DPS, and the far-right, nationalist Ataka.

Oresharski and Stanishev have largely snubbed calls for their resignation as PM and party leader, respectively.

Oresharski has invited representatives of the protesters for talks on Monday, but organizers of the demonstrations note the invitation clearly showed the PM has failed to grasp the essence of the rallies.

They write on Facebook that they are protesting against Peevski's appointment, the oligarchs who are the true rulers of the country, and the humiliation of common people.

Rallies will be held in Sofia, Blagoevgrad, Burgas, Varna, Dobrich, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo, Dimitrovgrad, Kazanlak, Lovech, Pazardzhik, Pernik, Pleven, Plovdiv, Ruse, Sandanski, Sliven, Stara Zagora, Montana and Brussels.

The protests have been peaceful, without incidents, except for a brawl stirred Sunday night by the leader of the far-right nationalist party Ataka, Volen Siderov.

Demonstrators are from all ages, including families with small children, people with their pets, and groups of young people. They have acted calmly, with respect to others, and have even cleaned their waste after the conclusion of the rallies.
