Michael Adebolajo, one of the suspects in the brutal Woolwich murder, was arrested in Kenya in 2010, according to the UK Foreign Office.
The Foreign Office has revealed that Michael Adebolajo was arrested in the African country, adding that it gave consular assistance "as normal" in the circumstances.
Boniface Mwaniki, head of Kenya's anti-terrorism unit, told the Associated Press that Adebolajo was believed to have been preparing to train and fight with Somali militant group al-Shabaab.
He said Adebolajo was arrested with five others and later deported.
The Kenyan government had previously denied the suspect had ever visited the country, the BBC reminds.
Adebolajo, 28, and a second man, Michael Adebowale, 22, were arrested on suspicion of the murder of soldier Lee Rigby in Woolwich on Wednesday.
Shortly after the brutal killing, Adebolajo was filmed by a passer-by, saying he carried out the attack because British soldiers killed Muslims every day.
