Boston bombing investigators have shot dead a man who became violent as they questioned him in Orlando, Florida, according to FBI officials.

The shooting took place early on Wednesday as law enforcement personnel interviewed 27-year-old Ibragim Todashev, who reportedly knew Boston bombing suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev.

FBI spokesman Paul Bresson said in a statement an FBI agent shot Todashev because of an "imminent threat", the BBC informs. The attacked FBI agent sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Todashev was from the Chechnya region, as were the Tsarnaev brothers, who are suspects in the April 15 Boston bombings. He had been living in the United States as a legal resident since approximately 2008.
