Ivan Kostov, a former Bulgarian Prime Minister (1997-2001), has announced his decision to resign as leader of the right-wing Democrats for Strong Bulgaria party following the party’s failure to obtain any seats in Parliament.

Kostov, who was not elected as Member of Parliament for the first time since 1990, said that the party’s leadership will resign en masse on June 23, when new DSB leaders are to be elected.

Earlier on Monday, senior DSB officials Radan Kanev and Petar Moskov also announced their resignations.

According to preliminary results of the Central Electoral Commission, DSB gets 3.07% of the votes at the May 12 general elections, meaning that the right-wing party fails to pass the 4% parliamentary threshold and will not enter Bulgaria's 42nd National Assembly.
