Daniel Mitov Ready for Foreign Minister Role Amid Geopolitical Test in Bulgaria
Daniel Mitov, Deputy Chairman of GERB, has expressed his readiness to assume the position of Acting Foreign Minister
The wiretapping scandal raging on in Bulgaria will intensify, forewarned GERB party leader and former PM Boyko Borisov.
"In the coming days, I expect that we will receive two or three even more severe blows," said Borisov in an interview for Nova TV on Sunday, Easter.
Borisov spoke just a week ahead of May 12 early general elections in Bulgaria.
"No one is immune now. Private conversations might leak involving any one," said Borisov.
A major turn in the wiretapping scandal was a conversation involving Borisov, his Agriculture Miinister Miroslav Naydenov, and now resigned Sofia City Prosecutor Nikolay Kokinov.
In the recording, the three apparently consider ways to thwart ongoing proceedings against Naydenov.
Borisov refused to comment the leaks Sunday, saying that he has the principle not to comment on illegally leaked documents.
He added that whoever started the wiretapping smear campaign has opened Pandora's box.
The GERB leader also reaffirmed his trust in GERB vice-chair and campaign leader Tsvetan Tsvetanov, who served as Interior Minister under him.
This week, prosecution announced that it had enough evidence to file charges against Tsvetanov for mishandling wiretapping while minister.
While Borisov said Sunday he expects the smear campaign to continue, he also added that ordinary Bulgarians don't care too much about the scandal.
