Bulgarian anti-mafia police unit director Stanimir Florov, who has been charged with facilitating drug trafficking, and Bulgarian ex-Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov are childhood friends, according to the latter's admission.

Tuesday Tsvetanov was interrogated for more than 5 hours at the Sofia Prosecutor's Office in relation to Florov's case.

Upon emerging, the former minister confirmed his firm belief in his former subordinate's proffessionalism and innocence, calling the police boss "a worthy officer and Bulgarian."

"It is strange that during the questions I remembered everything relating to my childhood, including since when and how I know Stanimir Florov," said Tsvetanov to journalists after leaving the prosecution.

"As a matter of fact, we know each other since 1973, from the block of apartment that my family and Florov's family lived in. We've been good family friends since then," added he.

"Good family frienships are made when the frienship is true and serious people, who work in institutions, are involved. You gotta respect that," mused Tsvetanov.

The former minister was resolute that he was in no way informed about any internal police investigations being carried out against his childhood friend.

Currently, Tsvetanov is being questioned by another prosecution authority in Sofia in charge of organized crime matters.
