A new protest has been scheduled for Tuesday at the Zlatograd border crossing point on the border with Greece.

On Monday, carriers, retailers, and representatives of the hotel and restaurant business staged several 15-minute road blocks at the border crossing point to protest a new border regime of the Greek customs authorities, according to reports of private TV station bTV.

Some ten days ago, Greece banned vehicles weighing over 2 tonnes from entering through the border crossing point.

At the opening of the Zlatograd-Xanthi border crossing three years ago, a sign saying that vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes were allowed to pass was placed on the Bulgarian side.

Zlatograd Mayor Miroslav Yanchev told bTV Monday that the restrictions violated EU laws stipulating the free movement of goods and services.

He made clear that the authorities had been informed that the protests would continue until the lifting of the restrictions.

Tuesday's protest is to be backed by Greek traders.
